Professor Lau graduated MBChB at the University of Dundee in 1985. He trained in Rheumatology at the Ninewells Hospital and Medical School between 1988 and 1992. His MD thesis on Raynaud’s phenomenon was awarded with Honours by the University in 1993. After 15 successful years at the University of Hong Kong as Professor and Assistant Dean in Medicine, Professor Lau took up the position of Chair of Rheumatology at the University of Dundee in 2007. In early 2010, however, he returned to the University of Hong Kong to take up his current appointment as Professor, Chair of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology and Director, Institute of Medical Health Sciences Education.

Professor Lau’s research interests have been on systemic lupus erythematosus and related disorders. He has published over 230 full articles and 400 abstracts, and has delivered 360 presentations at various learned meetings, including 150 invited lectures. While in Hong Kong, he founded the first local charity organisation for people with rheumatic disease, the Hong Kong Arthritis & Rheumatism Foundation. Professor Lau was President of the Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology (APLAR) between 2006 and 2008. He was co-founder of the Asian Congress on Autoimmunity and Huaxia Congress on the Management of Rheumatic Diseases. He is an editorial board member of Clinical Rheumatology, Inflammation and Inflammapharmacology, Lupus and Nature Reviews Rheumatology, as well as Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases, the official journal of APLAR.

           刘泽星教授 1985 年毕业于Dundee大学，并在医学院及Ninewells 医院的风湿科接受培训（1988年至 1992 年）。1993 年，他的关于雷诺现象的医学博士论文荣获大学的论文荣誉奖。随后他加入香港大学担任教授和院长助理，15后获邀赴英国Dundee担任风湿科主任。2010 年年初，在香港大学的力邀之下，他回到香港大学医学院担任教授、风湿免疫科主任及副院长，主管医疗健康科学教育。

刘教授的研究方向为系统性红斑狼疮和相关疾病。他发表了超过 230篇论文和 400篇摘要，并在各种学术会议给予讲座（包括超过360次演讲及150次应邀大会演讲）。他创办了香港第一个风湿性疾病慈善机构，关节炎和风湿性疾病基金。刘教授曾任亚洲太平洋地区风湿病学联盟的主席(APLAR， 2006年至 2008 年)，是亚洲自身免疫学会议、华夏风湿性疾病会议的创始人之一。他曾任APLAR 官方杂志《International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases》主编，是多家国际性杂志的编委，如Clinical Rheumatology, Inflammation and Inflammapharmacology, Lupus and Nature Reviews Rheumatology等杂志。
